They’re calling it “Ulta Thefts … Ultimate Arrests.” The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department has arrested two people tied to a string of beauty product thefts in the South Bay and deputies are looking for a third suspect.
Deputies say the trio stole from multiple Ulta Beauty stores, including ones in Sunnyvale and Cupertino.
According to a social media post by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged thieves stole more than $45,000 worth of beauty products from Ulta Beauty stores in San Jose, Cupertino, Sunnyvale and Campbell.
The Sheriff’s Office arrested 25-year-old Nicholas Beltran and 19-year-old Maria Figueroa in San Jose. Beltran has a previous burglary conviction.
Both are charged with grand theft and organized retail theft. Deputies have not said who the third suspect in this retail theft ring is.
Investigators believe the trio struck Target and Home Depot stores across Northern California in addition to the beauty store thefts. The suspects are allegedly connected to thefts from Placer County to Monterey County and the counties in between.
Deputies recovered some of the stolen goods when they searched a home in San Jose connected to the suspects. Investigators reportedly found ecstasy powder and pills, drug paraphernalia, digital scales, stolen sunglasses and clothing, and $1,500 in cash.
In 2025, several new laws went into effect in California, giving law enforcement better legal tools to prosecute and hold thieves accountable for retail theft, including a law that created a new crime punishable with up to three years in prison for people in possession of more than $950 worth of stolen goods with the intent to sell, exchange or return the goods.
