The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety has identified the man involved in the city’s first homicide of 2025. DPS officers believe 44-year-old Jesus Aguilera of Sunnyvale shot and killed a man outside a home on South Wolfe Road on Thursday, May 29.
Officers say Aguilera is a Hispanic male about 5’11” tall. He weighs about 190 pounds, has brown eyes and is bald. Officers say he is armed and dangerous, so do not attempt to contact him. Instead, call 9-1-1 immediately.
On Thursday, May 29, around 7:42 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of South Wolfe Road, just a few blocks north of the Sunken Garden Golf Course. There were reports of multiple gunshots.
When officers arrived, they found a wounded man outside a home. While DPS officers tried to offer medical aid, the man died at the scene.
Officers believe Aguilera shot the man.
Anyone with information about the shooting or Aguilera’s whereabouts is asked to contact Sunnyvale Det. E. Rosette at (408) 730-7110.
Recent Homicide Investigations in Sunnyvale
Sunnyvale tends to be a relatively safe city with officers rarely dealing with homicides. Last year, investigators closed one homicide investigation.
On April 30, 2024, a man was shot and killed on South Bernardo Avenue near Evelyn Avenue. The next day, officers identified and arrested a teen connected to the shooting.
Less than two months after that, three more teens were arrested in connection with the attack. One of the teens was arrested in coordination with San Diego police.
In 2023, Sunnyvale DPS officers investigated a murder-suicide.
Prior to that, DPS officers had not investigated a homicide since 2021.
In 2022, DPS also helped close a 1982 cold case. The department’s work helped lead to the arrest of the man who killed 15-year-old Karen Stitt near a bus stop in Sunnyvale several decades ago.
Gary Gene Ramirez pleaded no contest to murder charges earlier this year.
